Tides

Tides (2021) is a dystopian science-fiction thriller directed by Tim Fehlbaum, blending post-apocalyptic survival with emotional depth and social commentary. In the distant future, Earth has become almost uninhabitable due to environmental disasters and global conflict. When Blake, a colony astronaut sent on a reconnaissance mission, crash-lands on Earth, she finds herself alone in a hostile landscape ruled by scarcity and violence.

Tides (noto anche come The Colony) è un film di fantascienza post-apocalittico ambientato in un futuro in cui l’umanità è stata quasi completamente cancellata da una catastrofe globale. Dopo che la Terra è diventata inabitabile a causa di pandemie, guerre, cambiamenti climatici ed esposizione alle radiazioni, i pochi sopravvissuti più privilegiati si trasferiscono su una colonia spaziale attorno a Kepler‑209.

Generazioni dopo, gli abitanti di Kepler‑209 non sono più fertili, e la sopravvivenza della specie è a rischio. Per questo motivo viene organizzata una nuova missione chiamata Ulysses 2: un piccolo gruppo di astronauti, tra cui la giovane Blake (Louise Blake), parte per tornare sulla Terra e valutare se il pianeta sia di nuovo abitabile e favorevole alla riproduzione umana.

La capsula spaziale atterra in un paesaggio devastato e inospitale, caratterizzato da maree impetuose, tempeste e clima ostile. L’equipaggio si scontra ben presto con una popolazione terrestre ridotta a uno stato quasi primitivo, i cosiddetti “Muds”, che vivono in insediamenti difficili da raggiungere. Blake e i suoi compagni devono affrontare pericoli naturali, conflitti sociali e rivalità interne mentre cercano di scoprire la verità sul destino dell’umanità e della colonia.

Nel corso del film emergono segreti del passato, inclusi dettagli sulla prima missione sulla Terra guidata dal padre di Blake: la verità sul suo esito cambia la prospettiva della protagonista e la sua fiducia nel ritorno sulla Terra. Il film affronta temi di sopravvivenza, identità, appartenenza e il significato di casa in un mondo trasformato oltre ogni previsione.
